I watched this conversation unfold, and agree with you completely Igor. Why not start a formal petition? I’d sign it, as an American citizen and registered voter. Congressmen have listened to my pleas in the past.

Jack thank you for your support!
A little while back I contacted Anthony Weiner
http://weiner.house.gov/ who is a congressman for Brooklyn Brighton Beach, where my mother lives. I asked his staff for his help but was told that Mr. Weiner is not the congressman for my mother’s address but Jerrold Nadler is
http://www.house.gov/nadler/index.shtml
I contacted congressman Jerrold Nadler but did not receive any reply!
I would like to start an official petition so I can get to see my mother before she dies!
I hope you and others can help me with my predicament and my hardship!
Thank you
Igor

Igor should be allowed to see his mom.

That’s an incredibly intense and touching set of statements to make online, or indeed to make at all. I applaud your sincerity and transparency. Things like this, people denying the public vs. private divide, will remake the whole world, not just the US. While @bobbar will most ignore this, that doesn’t steal from the intensity of it.
And to be a little less wordy about it:
@igorthetroll you rock!

There was one Tweet between me and congressman Bob Barr that got lost and I cannot find it! But my mother has Alzheimer’s and the nursing home that she is in has her totally sedated as a vegetable because they do not have enough staff to attend to their patients!
Noah, when I tried to apply for a USA visa in Osaka consulate in 2004 they refused the visa! At that time I fainted because of the shock! They had USA federal marshals carry me out of the building and bring me to Japanese police! They treated me as a criminal.

Hi Igor,
I agree with all, you should be allowed to see your mother on her “death bed” or even if she wasn’t. It is totally a disgrace of the US to deny you your rights, of just seeing your mother. I mean you, one man, is not a threat to the United States of America. It makes no sense that their answer is that you wouldn’t go back to your home you have lived in for 18 years when you are fully established there with a business and home, friends, and whatever. Why would you not go back, that is where you chose to live. Also so what, your an citizen of Israel, and not Japan…what is the difference. That makes sense since you are Hebrew. So therefore I ask whoever I can, what threat are you. That is just it, your not! Americans have always been very proud of our freedoms we are told we have, although over the past years, these freedoms have been taken from us slowly, and some us don’t even notice. We have also been very proud about the people we take into our Country, so they also can be free, but that has been affected now too. What does the Statue of Liberty say, what is written on it, does anyone remember? The Bush Administration has taken away a lot of our freedoms, and he should be ashamed of himself of how he has carried on in his time in office.
Igor, you should have never at anytime been treated as a criminal. To me the whole story is totally disgusting…and makes me very angry, and makes me cry for you, and your family. All you wanted is to see your mother, what harm would that have caused…NONE! Also, from this story, you ARE an American citizen which would have to do with your mother being one. I mean, I know you not the man without the Country! From your story, you never did become an citizen of Japan, so therefore, what Country did you live in last, think it was the US. You went to college here. All I see is that the United States of America has wronged you big time, and needs to send you a written apology, and also allow you to come here and see your mother.
BTW, did Bob Barr ever answer your tweets? I hope he responded somehow.

Skye B, thanks for your support! Unfortunately I do not have my jewelery import business in Japan anymore. The economy has changed and you must change with the economy or you wind up losing money!
I did work as an English teacher a few years after I closed my jewelery import business. And later I worked as a web developer for 4 years.
Actually, currently I am not working, but that is not a problem for me, because I saved enough money from my business to allow me the freedom to look for the next business opportunity.
This is where the problem lies with American consulate. They do not care how much money I have. They want the person applying for visa to have employment for a large corporation or they claim that that person wants to live and work in America illegally.
This is ridiculous! i am not interested in working in America illegally. I just want to visit my mother and hold her hand before she dies! What is wrong with American government?

Igor - this is making me sick. The arguments by the consulate seem outright baseless. I lost my mom a few days after 9/11 (she was actually buried erev Rosh Hashanah, which postponed shiva for a few days), and can’t imagine how I would be now if I wasn’t able to be at her bedside those last few days. Let me know how I can help.
