I am a Criminal in Japan
I have this interesting habit of walking around trying to pick up young girls. Not that it works that good, but it is fun to do. That is how I met my wife in the first place. I met her on West 4th Street subway station, in NYC. I just came over to her and said, “Nice Bag!” So we went from there.
Now living in Japan it is a bit harder to do than in New York City, but I still attempt to try my luck, just for fun.
Osaka Japan Girls

Recently I went to Mio, a fashion mall building in Tenoji, Osaka Japan. The place has many clothing shops and many young sexy girls work at the shops as well as come shopping there. My usual self, I strolled around from shop to shop trying to start a conversation with a sales girl. They like to talk to westerners but are a bit shy when approached. It does not bother me, because I am not shy at all. I usually get an email address and a phone number, but find it hard to get anything going past that.
As I came up to the second floor of the 11 floors building I bumped into a few cute High School girls. They were all giggly and friendly with me, trying to practice their broken English. I knew I was not getting some from them, but was game, just for fun. I joked around with them, not that they understood my jokes, but they would laugh when I would say, “American Joke!” at the end of the Joke! That is the sort of weird sense of humor they have in Japan. They do not understand the joke but tend to laugh when you say, “American Joke!” At the end of our tryst, I wanted to get a little memory of the meet and pulled out my mobile phone to snap their picture. They smiled with a V sign! I wanted to be included in the picture, but they vehemently objected and pulled a way as soon as I brought my face next to theirs. Again, they asked me to take their picture only. I said no, I wanted a picture with all of us together. They would not agree, so I walked away!
As I went up the escalator to the third floor, I noticed a building’s security guard. First, I payed him no mind and continued strolling into different shops looking to strike a conversation with a nice girl. As I went from shop to shop I noticed the guy, ever so gently, on my back, following me. I took the escalator to the 4th floor and stopped right as I got off the steps, waiting to see if the private Pig comes around. Lo and behold, the Dick showed up like a bad nickel. I approached the excuse for a man, and said to him, “Why are you following me?” The Ass Wipe replied, “I am not following you!” I turned way in discuss and went about my business. My got feeling told me the guard was stalking me, but there was nothing I can do! I was in their building. I thought to myself, “What an intrusion of privacy!”
I continued walking around, slowly going up from floor to floor, but the Buzzkill took the fun out of the game. As I came up to the 8th floor, I decided to visit a friend who had an accessory shop there. I use to have an import company and manufactured, imported and distributed fashion accessories. I came into the shop and started chatting with a manger that I use to make business with some years back. This company had a few stores and the employees remembered me pretty well, because my company use to sell a lot to their company. The manager was very friendly with me, and we reminisced and talked about how well the business use to be and how it sucked now. All of a sudden, 5 or 6 security guards surrounded the store staring at me with protruding eyes, ready to come down for the kill. At that point I knew something had to be done! I came out of the store, and in indignation protested, “What do you want!” The manager came out to help me out. We were all talking in Japanese, which I knew very well after living in Japan for 18 years. I said to the guards that I am visiting my old customer and asked them why are they following me from store to store. They replied that they are not following me. I went back to the store, but the idiots just kept standing there and would not go away. I came out again and said, “What do you want?” Finally one guard told me that some customers complained to the guards that I asked them for money. I said, “What The Fuck!” and showed them a 1,000 usd that I had in my wallet. I said to them, “Look I have fucken money and just visiting a friend! I use to make big business with this company and have no reason to walk around begging money from people.” My manager friend concurred and told them not to worry, that we are just talking. At that point they relented and walked away.
I was angry and a bit ashamed in front of my friend. I knew Japanese people are a bit scared of foreigners but this was total paranoia! I decided to call it a day and said goodbye to my friend. As I was walking out of the building, I noticed a couple of westerners greeting customers at the door to the store. I found it a bit ironic, being that the mall was so paranoid with foreigners but had westerners working as greaters, welcoming Japanese customers. I told the two employees what had just happened to me. They kind of laughed at the accident and said it is nothing new, that the store’s policy is to follow all foreigners until they leave the store. I said, “Dudes, you got to be Shitting me!” They replied, “No, it is the truth!” I am like Fuck, these people are weired. So this shit was never about me, but they stalked me just because I am a Gaijin!
I was really mad at that point. I have been living in Japan for 18 years and I am being seen as a criminal by the Japanese society. Suddenly I saw this guy standing around with the mall’s id card hanging of his neck! I went over to talk to him, to raise a complaint about my ordeal. He turned out to be the manager of the mall. We went upstairs to the offices to have a civil discussion. I explained to the mall’s manager what had just happened. I told him I was very upset and demanded an apology. I said to him that the store has no right to follow foreigners around, just because they are afraid of them. He said that the store does not have a policy like that, and that he will call the security guards supervisor to find out what really happened. The security guards supervisor came over and told me, that the reason that the guards followed me was because the girls that I met on the second floor, the girls whose picture I did not take, complained that I asked them for money. I was really ticked at the time. I said, “Where are the girls? I want them to say that to my face!” The guard replied, “They complained and left the store.” I said, “Based on a story of High School girls you going to follow a customer around the store? Why didn’t you just ask me and the girls to come over to your office and find out what really happened, instead of following me around like a criminal?” At that point the guy was speechless. He knew the girls were bullshitting, otherwise I would have been brought to the security office, but he still had his man follow me around! I said to him that his man embarrassed me in front of my customer and they did not even have proof that I did something wrong. He started telling me that it is his job to protect the mall. I said, “Protect the mall? How about my human rights! Don’t you have respect for people, or you just believe some teenagers wild story, just because they are Japanese and the other person is a foreigner?” I named my customer’s company and a few other big people in the industry! At that point they got scared and started apologizing to me. He and the mall manager said to me that next time someone complains they will investigate and talk to the parties involved before jumping to conclusions.
Prisoner in Japan

In Japan quite a few young women play this game blaming males for all kind of weired things, especially Chikan! Even though Chikan - sexually groping of a woman in public places - does happen, very often it has evolved to some sort of fantasy for attention by Japanese women. I am glad the mischievous girls did not blame me for that.
Looks like the young girls were just angry that I did not take their picture, thinking a westerner did not think them attractive, and they retaliated with a little long tale. No harm done, teenagers like to play. But security guards at that mall really need to get their shit together and stop being paranoid about foreigners!
Even though, Japan as a whole has opened up to western culture adopting food, fashion, and music, Japanese people overall still feel uncomfortable around western people. They are like little children. They are interested in western people but scared at the same time. Sometime Japanese women send wrong signals to western men. They act like they are interested in a man, but they are really just interested in the culture and the English language. One must be aware of this when coming to Japan. Still my beef is not really with the Japanese society and how they are fearful of westerners, while intrigued by the culture.
My real concern is how the people of whole world have become distrustful of each other. Living in New York City in the 80’s people were very free and open minded. It was easy to meet someone on the street or in a coffee shop and strike a conversation with them and even take things to a higher level. But as the 90’s rolled around people became kind of cold. As I walked down the street people would avoid looking at each other, as if everyone was behind some protective barrier. After 9/11 things gotten even worse. Everyone is paranoid about everyone. This is not only in United States but all over the world. On the Internet we feel comfortable, chat, and socialize with each other, but in person we get defensive and bring up the Fire Wall!

Sad,but you can’t blend the Japanese really. As crime rate raise higher, there were no place safe. Discomposure & tension made people locked heart and trusted no one. Globe is warming, society is getting cold as ice. Not a decade ago we didn’t close door at night. Now what?

There is a company called Digital Angel, which produces implantable RFID and GPS chips. It trades under the symbol ADSX and an IBM subsidiary.
I would not be surprised when in the near future all western countries citizens will be required to have a micro chip implanted under their skins for security purpose.
Keep an eye on United States congress and what out for Human Surveillance Act, which will probably come up for a debate very soon. American citizens are like sheep and easily manipulated by their government. We are in the Age of Fear Politics. It is not what real that counts, but it is about how to control the masses.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:17 pm
mmm,I kindly agree with your point of view, but there has two way force drag each other. Government do what has to be done. Civilian speak loud what has to be say.
April 3rd, 2008 at 2:55 pm
Well, unless Americans ready for a revolution the government will win. The sad part is that too many Americans are on Prozac, watching Home Shopping Network and maxing out their credit cards. As long as they can borrow to buy the next hit electronic gadget they are content.
The real sad part is that many western governments adopt American laws and policies for themselves. Look at what happened with no Smoking. I started on American air carriers and spread to global airlines. Then it went to restaurants and public buildings, now you cannot smoke in restaurants and public buildings in most Asian and European countries.
What is next? No Sex allowed!
I am waiting for New World Order - NWO, which will be presided by an American president and will consist of American allies - Axis of Americanism. It will be worse than World War 2 Axis Powers.
While we all asleep and think nothing is wrong, they - the power hungry manipulating politicians and large conglomerates in subterfuge are plotting and planing global domination. It has almost happened before with the help of Prescott Bush. The Plot to overthrow FDR.
So as you can see this is not science fiction or far fetched imagination, this stuff is very real!
April 3rd, 2008 at 5:42 pm
Probably they take your liberal, friendly attitudes to the young girls as disrespect being of different culture. The security guards are most likely being overprotective. Probably you would understand if you are looking from the point view that the girls are your daughter or sister, in the family you know!
Nevertheless, I think we should be more discreet in going after girls especially in public . Even a Japanese in the same manner would have an unfavorable view from passer by. However modern & westernize the Japanese has become, they still hold the traditional protective ways which we should give a benefit of the doubt.

Shrek, you are totally correct. Japan is a very convoluted paradoxical society. While on the surface it looks modern and westernized, inside it is very conservative and traditional. Even Medieval to a certain degree.
Japanese women rarely get to express their sexuality and very often repress their feelings. Many relationships are prearranged by family and coworkers.
That is why some Japanese women tend to go extreme and border lunacy in their sexual behavior. In many instances it is easier to Fuck a Japanese woman on a street corner or in some obscure place than have a communicative, rational, and intellectual relationship with them.
Here are a few interesting stories to read. Japanese Girl Nymph, Hot chick in Japan, Japanese Lesbian Girl, Sensitive Japanese Girl

Igor - the next time you talk to young Japanese girls DO NOT be BASHFUL before this happens!
April 4th, 2008 at 11:55 am
EuroYank, you are absolutely right! I need to stop being so Shy! Next time I will not even say hello, but go for the goods.
Maybe drag a girl to some dark alley and act Jack The Ripper. If caught with the goods, I can always cop an insanity plea. I will just tell them I heard voices!
Who knows, soon it may come to that! People are really having trouble communicating. And many of us are in a stumped trance. Maybe we are semi-sleep induced by certain chemicals in our food?
I am serious! I could walk in front of a girl, and she would not even move out of the way. She would just bump into me! It is kind of Eerie. I am not a Ghost! I did a little video experiment of Japanese Young Girls. Watch it and judge for yourselves.
Could this be some covert experiment by the Japanese government to control the masses? I know in America half of the population is on Prozac. I just came back from Europe and people were quite alert, not in some sort of strange Stupor.
April 4th, 2008 at 7:04 pm
There’s a metaphor when two culture get into communion;it like pour hot water into a cup of ice. They bound together aren’t cold nor hot. They got warm! You can no longer treat them as hot nor cold;and you can taste them smoothly if you open mind fallowing the “rule”,because it was not western nor eastern,it is NEW & FRESH.

“There are only two ways to be happy.. One is acting like an idiot the other is being an idiot” Sigmund Freud 1856-1939
April 5th, 2008 at 5:28 am
Wow Randy, now you talking Confucianism! I like that. You are a smart guy.
Freud, if we have to live like an Idiot to be happy then that is our Life! We live how we can live. We do not chose life, but life choses us.
April 5th, 2008 at 4:20 pm
Igor.. No ofense, Freuds quote was for this crazy society we`re living in.. I thought it was apropiate.. I am spanish so if I offended anyone, it was not my intencion
April 5th, 2008 at 4:30 pm
Freud, actually I was not offended at all. Actually having a bit of lunacy makes the day go by easier. If we are too serious about life the Lunatics take over..:) I am sure dear Freud made his statement to apply both ways.
Yes the society is crazy and totally fucked up, so to be able to live in it one must be a bit crazy as well or he/she may become crazy and go to the loony bin..:)

Am I the only one that thinks it’s inappropriate for a married man to go around flirting with strange women, taking their pictures, and asking for phone numbers? Sorry to be a prude, but I would be upset if this were my husband. Even if it’s “just for fun” and just a pet hobby that’s not going to lead anywhere sexual, it’s still inappropriate.
April 6th, 2008 at 7:47 pm
Well, do not keep your hubby on a chain, and he may stick around longer..:) But of course it depends on you, and I am not the one to tell people how to live their lives. My wife does know what I am doing, and we are happily married for 18 years.
It is all about what type of a relationship the couple has. Better be open with each other and it will last for a long time. But you are not a prude..:)
P.S. If you cannot get your hubby to behave, try these Unix Jokes on Him!

April 17th, 2008 at 5:39 pm
Hey Loren, welcome to my humble abode. So you are a Troll, just like me..:)
I love your puppets thing, it is brilliant. Keep riding the wave, never know where it may take you! And if the Loser Shel Israel has a problem with that he should compensate you for your original product. I would start the bidding at 10 million dollars at the least.
Business is Business, Life is Life, you are not happy with something do something about!
April 17th, 2008 at 5:47 pm
Here is a great idea, on the house! Do a parody puppet show using a cardboard cut out of your guest! So let’s say you were doing one of me, get my picture enlarged and speak for me and speak for your puppet. You can even invest a bit and make puppets of Al Gore, and ask the Dude!
Al Gore, did you create the Internet like you said? Mr. Gore I heard you created the Google algorithm, but Sergei Brin and Larry Page hacked into your server and stole it from you! Is this True?
April 17th, 2008 at 5:54 pm
Here is a video I did with a friend Steve, who has been cycling the world for 20 years. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNIso-vjl_8
I think even I with a freaking mobile phone as a video camera look better than Shel Israel.
Loren we look a bit like brothers. Are we related.
April 17th, 2008 at 5:55 pm
Igor - you sure do have a lively crowd here and such a diverse mix of people. Everything from very smart people to real dumb asses, and others that cannot read. This must be a meeting of the Trolls! I must come here more often, but the only trolling I ever do is for fish, and I usually end up with caviar!
April 17th, 2008 at 6:11 pm
Hey Euro, I am glad you are picking up on the lingo. Nice to see not being shy and letting you hair down. You are the famous anti-American Yank.
April 21st, 2008 at 3:41 am
sorry, but you sound like a letch. I am not suprised you were followed. I too have lived in Asia and have seen people like yourself who feel somehow that their actions are above approach and feel superior to all others. Even your language is gross. Thats all Japann needs, a foul mouthed yank.
April 21st, 2008 at 4:57 am
How do you get me for a Yank! What do you think I say to Japanese people?
I been living on Japan for 18 years and I speak perfect Japanese. There is no need for me to condescend to Japanese people.
April 26th, 2008 at 12:59 pm
Enh. Part of the fun, the awkard ’special treatment’…
But think back in the Western World, a man of 40+ (I’m guessing…) following about a band of high school girls…that would likely creep out the girls & warrant a bit more than just a stalking security force if they blabbed. I used to do things such as it sounds like they did–someone impinges on the day, or perhaps crosses some comfort boundary, so embellish, even fabricate some ludicrous tale that gets them on the spot. If anything, it brightens everyone’s day; and consolidates memory, sure.
Next, what was the motive for chatting up little girls in the first place? If the means was trying to get it to go past an email/ph#, what were the motivational ends?
(I don’t know your full story, so I’m not about to brand anything as Sex Tourism or general creepiness–I used to live in Taipei & did similar chat-ups with locals [female or male], but usually with the joke being on me as a silly ‘waiguoren’; no sexual motivation or anything, nothing shy of an innocent headfuck & just trying to confuse people for sake of obscurity.)
Other than this, i’ve read some of your stuff, and it’s not bad, but, well, it’s sounds like it Could be more interesting with some linguistic flare, and–not to be The Grammarian–a simple spell-check.
April 26th, 2008 at 1:47 pm
You right, in America I would be castrated for my lewd behavior!
But what is wrong with Sexuality? Have you read Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov. It is human nature for a young girl to be attracted to an older man! The society is distorting the affection and making men into sexual predators.
There is a difference between the actions of a diseased pedophiler and an older man attracted to a younger woman. Sexuality is being distorted and deformed to such extremes that the Sexes are so confused that a he does not know how to be a he, and a she does not know what it is to be a she!
Here are a few more good books Tropic of Cancer, Sexus, Nexus and Plexus!
We are living in the age of Asexuality. We role play online to satisfy our sexual desires. It is a disease!
April 27th, 2008 at 7:21 am
You can try and use all the resources in the world so as not to appear a creep Igor but in mine and others eyes you will always be one if you keep bragging about this sort of stuff.
I for one am glad those girls tried to stitch you up with Security.
April 27th, 2008 at 8:16 am
Andrew, actually I am not into adolescent girls, but I love young women.
But unfortunately it is not as easy to meet opposite sex members as it use to be, young or older.
I think everyone is extremely sensitive and on guard to enter other people into their lives.
As far as the High School girls go that I wrote about in this post, they were playing around, and I knew that. But then they made up a story to a security guard and that is bad!
May 6th, 2008 at 9:58 pm
Still, you didn’t say what Ends you were striving for…your motivations…
Quote: “I usually get an email address and a phone number, but find it hard to get anything going past that.”
…So, what exactly is ‘anything past that’ then?
I’m making no suppositions, but I can see where some people’s remarks are coming from–but on the positive side, it shows your story is getting a reaction.
May 6th, 2008 at 11:39 pm
John the end that I strive to will depend on a girl that I meet and what is she receptive to!
Should I ask a 40 year old virgin to have sex with me, when she knows nothing about sex?
Should I ask a woman of the cloth to have sex with me, when her love is for God?
When I meet a girl I look for a relationship, but the type of relationship will depend on the girl.
May 21st, 2008 at 12:29 pm
Did you ever see any of that Japanese series hosted by Jonathon Ross? Damn, that was a classic. So much of what you described here reminded me of that. There seems to be a weird dichotomy in Japan of formal+repressed vs. violent+sexual, capitalism+technology vs. traditionalism.
May 21st, 2008 at 12:40 pm
Wow Kristarella, I almost deleted your comment by accident! I marked as Spam instead of approve! Then I did a back browser button and was able to retrieve them again!
Working to hard today! lol
Yes Japan is convoluted in all type of relationships. It is a real enigma.
I am sure you heard of John Lenon and Yoko Ono relationship and his love affair with a Chinese girl.
I am sorry I have not watched the show by Jonathan Ross, but it would be interesting to see how other people see the real Japan.
Maybe we can find something on Youtube?
June 7th, 2008 at 12:39 am
Hey there! I wanted to let you know that I met an asian (who’s from Japan) chick here in Toronto while I was at thejmall. She seemed very nice and we went out a few times and I thought everything was pretty much cool.
Then we went out a few days ago and some how I did something to freak her out. We went out to dinner she was very talkative cheerful etc. Then afterwards as soon as we got on the subway she almost immediately fell silient and stopped talking tome.
I messaged her through her through text on her cell but she didn’t text back like usuall. So I texted her back a few more times and she eventually got around to getting back to me like a day later. She then told me that she didn’t want to talk to me anymore because she thought I was too needy.
First of all, we hardly even know each other and we only went out like 3 times in 1 month. Second of all, I hardly even messaged her the whole time during that month. Second when we did go out, I didn’t feel like I was getting too atached to her or chatty or whatever.
But some how for whatever reason she thinks I’m too needy unless there is something else bothering her about me that she’s not mentioning for what ever reason.
Btw she’s cute and she seems cool and smart, I just don’t know what her problem is. I never did anything to her.
Also, she goes back to Japan in two weeks.
Any advice?
Thanks,
Cheddarfix

Asian women are very sensitive and delicate, they are like butterflies! If they trust you, they will let you near them; if they do not, they will fly away!
What is Trust? It depend on an individual. You can trust someone as soon as you meet them, or you can spend eternity and never win their Trust.
Do not feel bad, if you seek it you will find it!
That is what Love is about.

Good thread igor lesson is break social rules and u may pay a price
July 21st, 2008 at 8:21 pm
Hey Rob, I almost did not recognize you! lol Social rules are complected. They are not as simple as black and white.
There are different layers of social rules and your understanding and the ability to harness the knowledge and apply it relatively helps you to deal with different situations in the society.
I have lived in different countries and each country has its own social rules and standards.
what maybe acceptable in one country may not be acceptable in another.
What maybe ok in the West may not be ok in the East and viso verso!
I guess I have learned different things from different societies and I use that knowledge to help me i my life.
It is very useful to have lived in different societies and makes life interesting.
There is a saying which I am sure you know, “When in Rome do like the Romans do!”
But I do have my ways! Life is a Mystery!

Not a criminal…a pervert in Japan. I read the story word for word…you were going around hitting on the young girls. Someone complained…Oh well… BOO-HOO!
September 1st, 2008 at 11:28 pm
Well I am glad you do not see me as a criminal.
Do you have something against men liking women? Do you advocate arrange marriages or something?
